Vivian “Virginia” Pharis

Vivian “Virginia” Pharis, 82, of Sulphur, passed away on May 1, 2023 surrounded by family. Virginia worked for LCC in DeQuincy, then as a Special Education teacher’s aide at Sulphur High School. One of her greatest enjoyments was spending time with her family, recalling old stories about her parents, sister, and cousins. She loved going to Bible studies, playing games, and listening to the golden oldies with her friends.
Virginia is survived by her daughter, Lisa (Dana) Istre of Tomball, Texas; two sons, Brent (Hannah) Pharis of Oberlin and Eric (Jamie) Pharis of Moss Bluff; sister, Shirley (Bob) Todd of Lubbock, Texas; and niece, Mandy (Clay) Buchanan of Lubbock, Texas. She has 10 grandchildren, Tori, Jace, Samuel, Matthew, Andrew, Joseph, Elizabeth, Tucker, Brady, and Campbell Pharis. Also, great niece, Lindsay Buchanan and great nephew, Dyllen Buchanan.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Leatrice Governale, owners of Hilltop Grocery in DeRidder; as well as her husband of 49 years, Johnny Pharis.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 4, 2023 at 10 a.m.. Johnson and Robison Funeral Home in Sulphur with Pastor Kevin Burns officiating. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 3, 2023 from 5-8 p.m. at Johnson and Robison Funeral with visitation continuing on Thursday, from 8 a.m. until time of the service. Burial will be in Rigmaiden Cemetery in DeQuincy under the direction of Johnson and Robison Funeral Home.
