Dr. Amy Katherine Phelps, a bright and compassionate soul, passed away at the age of 39, on April 16, 2023, in Fayetteville, Ark. Born on Feb. 7, 1984, in Lake Charles, La., Amy pursued a life of service and dedication to others.
Amy’s journey to success began at McNeese State University, where she obtained her undergraduate degree. Her passion for helping others led her to the University of Arkansas, where she completed her Doctor of Medicine. As a partner and doctor at Northwest Arkansas Pathology Associates, Amy devoted herself to providing exceptional care for her patients.
Amy’s zest for life was evident in her love for traveling and exploring the world. She will always be remembered for her bright, friendly spirit, and her boundless compassion for others. Driven by her optimism and desire to help, Amy was an active member of the Big Brothers, Big Sisters organization, where she mentored and guided young individuals in her community.
Raised in a Christian home, Amy found joy in serving others. She leaves behind a legacy of love and service that will continue to inspire all who knew her.
Amy is survived by her loving parents, Lonnie and Trudy Payne Phelps; and her sister, Ashley Gatte (Ben); and her two year old niece, Stella Gatte. Their cherished memories of Amy will be a guiding light in the days ahead.
A funeral service in honor of Amy will be held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, April 26, 2023, in the Trinity Baptist Church North Venue, with the Rev. Rick McClain officiating. Following the service, Amy will be laid to rest in Consolata Cemetery, under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles. Visitation will take place on Tuesday evening from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles, located at 4321 Lake Street, Lake Charles, LA 70605.
