Leslie ”Jake” Allen Jacobs Sr.

Leslie Allen Jacobs Sr., 86, was born on June 13, 1936, in Goudeau, La., to the late Abraham and Lucille Bonton Jacobs. Leslie grew up in Goudeau and later moved to Port Neches, Texas. He was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Lake Charles, under the leadership of the late Rev. Horace Arvie. He later moved his membership to the Throne of Grace Fellowship under the pastoral ship of Dr. Wilton J. Red and remained a member until the time of death. Leslie was known in the community as “Jake”. 

Jake worked for Weingarten’s Grocery Store for 25 years as a carryout man. He carried many people’s groceries and made friends throughout the city of Lake Charles. On Sundays, he would sweep the Weingarten’s Grocery Stores parking lots by hand until 1976, when he purchased his first parking lot sweeper. He cleaned many parking lots within the city of Lake Charles, Sulphur, Vinton, and out of town. He also had a bush-hogging company working for the city of Lake Charles and was self-employed for many years. He was the owner of All Area Sweepers.

Jake loved spending time with his family, grandchildren, and friends. He enjoyed making his favorite dish of okra gumbo.

On the morning of April 1, 2023, the angels carried Jake to his Heavenly home.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Abraham and Lucille Jacobs; brothers, Melvin ‘SoSo’, Elbert ‘Dee’, Hilton ‘Mook’, Polite ‘Jack’ and Marion ‘Adolph’ Jacobs; sisters, Annie Jacobs and Helen Jones; grandson, Leslie Allen ‘PeeWee’ Jacobs IV; and son-in-law, Abraham Janice Jr.

His memories will live on in the lives of his brother, Minister Harold Jacobs of Port Arthur, Texas; sisters, Jessie Mae Paul of Baytown, Texas, and Betty Jacobs of Port Arthur, Texas. Sisters-in-law, Queen Ester Jacobs and Billy Jean Jacobs. The legacy of Leslie Allen Jacobs Sr. will be forever cherished by his children, Bernadine LeBlanc, Cheryl Tezeno, Carolyn Janice, Leslie F. Jacobs, Jordan Jacobs, all of Lake Charles, La., Michael Jacobs Sr. of Opelousas, La., Terry (Cynthia) Jacobs of Loganville, Ga., Grace (Robert) Sanders, Tharrius (Joshua) Pete Sr., Lance (Carla) Jacobs, and Lesley Grace all of Houston, Texas. Deondra (Paul) Pattum of Houston, Texas, whom he took under his wings and reared as another daughter; and godchildren, Deidra Gauthier, Reginald Joubert and Armani Harrison; 22 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; and three plus one on the way great-great-grandchildren; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. He was blessed to be included in four generations of loved ones.

Visitation will be Saturday April 15, 2023 from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. in Throne of Grace. Funeral will be Saturday April 15, 2023 at 11 a.m. in Throne of Grace. Burial will be in Combre Memorial Park under the direction of Combre Funeral Home.
