Continuous rainfall not over yet, but almost

The continual rainfall Southwest Louisiana has been experiencing the past two days is diminishing — but it isn’t expected to stop just yet.

One more round of light-to-moderate rain is expected overnight, reported the National Weather Service’s Lake Charles office  — which had its own radar capabilities knocked out Thursday night due to the severe weather.

Given the moderate-to-heavy rainfall over the past couple of days, soil moisture has increased considerably and any additional rain could produce isolated flooding, the agency said. So far, rainfall totals of up to 15 inches have been reported just west of Calcasieu Lake with a larger swath of 6-10 inches south of Interstate 10 Cameron and southern Calcasieu parishes east toward Acadia Parish.

That’s on top of a band of roughly 5-6 inches of rain that fell Wednesday afternoon and evening across northern Tyler County east to near the Toledo Bend Dam.
