Robert Louis “Doc” Rumsey, 93, of DeRidder, La., passed from this life on Tuesday, March 28, 2023.
Doc was born April 10, 1929, in DeRidder, La. He was a retired professor from McNeese State University, where he taught wildlife management courses. Doc also taught at the University of Kentucky, where he loved to pheasant hunt. He was an avid gardener and grew a vast variety of produce including a beautiful Muscadine grove. He loved sharing his crops with his friends and former students.
Doc’s children included numerous canines and would often be seen traveling his property on his Ranger with all of them sitting beside him. He was a fierce promoter of nature that was evident in his bee keeping, maintaining his monarch butterfly gardens and feeding his deer.
To know Doc, was to love him and benefit from his wealth of knowledge regarding wildlife. He often portrayed a toughness about him, but if you knew him – you would understand he had a heart of gold.
