Getting a little corny for BBBS: Annual Bags & Brew Cornhole Tournament set for April 1

Locals will have the opportunity to “get a little corny” at Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwest Louisiana’s third annual Bags & Brew Cornhole Tournament.

Competition takes place Saturday, April 1, at Crying Eagle Brewery, 1165 E. McNeese St.

Eric Avery, President of Crying Eagle Brewing Company, has watched the event evolve since its inception. “What started as a means to cope with the pandemic, has now evolved into one of the most popular and highly regarded charity events in the city,” he explained. “It’s been exciting to watch this event grow over the years in both popularity and fundraising success.”

The event has a huge draw among BBBS-SWLA supporters and Crying Eagle Patrons alike, he said.

“We here at Crying Eagle look forward to this event every year.”

This is the first major event of 2023 for BBBS-SWLA. All proceeds from Bags & Brew benefits BBBS-SWLA’s six mentoring programs housed in SWLA and directly impacts the pairing with a Big mentor and supports the over fifty Littles that are currently on the waitlist, said Erin Davison, CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of SWLA.

“In 2022, $37,000 was raised through Bags & Brew,” she said.

Registration for Bags & Brew closes on Friday, March 24 at 4 p.m. Space is filling up fast, as there are currently less than 50 team slots available. Registration is $100 per team.

Teams – composed of two players ages 12 and up – will compete in a tournament of round-robin single elimination gameplay.

Each team will receive four drink tickets and two appetizer vouchers and will have the opportunity to participate in a split-the-pot, earn prizes and jam to music during the tournament.

The tournament begins at noon, but team check-in begins at 11 a.m.

Regulation size bean bags and cornhole boards will be provided. All players are required to provide valid ID before receiving their complimentary beverage tickets.

Teams must be registered in advance to compete. No day-of registration will be permitted.
