A man accused Wednesday of driving off during a traffic stop with a Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s deputy’s arm still in his widow has been arrested.

Spokesperson Kayla Vincent said Clausy Bernard, 36, has been charged with resisting an officer by flight; unlawful disruption of school operations; and aggravated flight from an officer. His bond is pending.

Vincent said deputies in the area of the 100 block of Vine Street in Sulphur attempted to speak with Bernard Wednesday after pulling him over following reports of a suspicious vehicle in the area. Vincent said Bernard rolled up his window, with the deputies arm inside, and attempted to drive off.

Deputies shot at the suspects’s car window, in order to free the deputies arm. Vincent said Bernard was not injured during the shooting.

Bernard was able to drive off in his white Toyota Camry with expired paper tags. It was also learned Bernard is wanted on out-of-state warrants.

Sulphur schools were locked down Thursday as deputies searched for Bernard.
