The Allen Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a man allegedly approached two underage females on Saturday and made two unusual requests.

Sheriff Doug Hebert said Monday, the Sheriff’s Office received reports Saturday about a suspicious man who approached the girls at two different locations in Oberlin.

The man did not commit any crimes or make any lewd remarks, but made an unusual request of the girls, Hebert said.

“The man approached the underage girls at the City Park during the daytime Saturday,” Hebert said. “He told them he was participating in a church scavenger hunt and that he needed a pair of white socks from the girls.”

The girls gave a pair of socks to the man at which time he gave them a $50 gift card.

Authorities believe the gift card was purchased from a CVS store in Lake Charles. The gift card did not have any money on it, Hebert said.

The girls told authorities the man left the park in a four-door gray or silver hatchback vehicle, possibly a Honda but followed them to Musslewhite Road where he parked and waited for them to return.

He later approached them at the Crawfish Shack, where he asked for the female’s Crocs. The females then left and went home, where they reported the incident to an adult who reported it to the Sheriff’s Office.

The man is described as a middle-aged white male.

Hebert said there are no other incidents involving strangers approaching underage juveniles.

The Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with any information or who sees or recognizes the man or the vehicle to contact local law enforcement or 911.
