A Jennings man is accused of threatening to kill dogs in his neighborhood while armed with a knife.

Jagger Dane Smith, 29, was arrested Sunday on two counts of aggravated cruelty to animals, criminal trespass, unauthorized entry of an inhabited dwelling and resisting an officer with force or violence.

Jeff Davis Parish sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a residence on Jeff Davis Academy Road in reference to a man armed with a knife threatening to kill dogs in the area, according to Chief Deputy Chris Ivey.

The suspect had already left the area in a vehicle when deputies arrived, but were given a description of the vehicle and a nearby location where he lived.

Deputies spoke to Smith, who admitted to chasing dogs in the neighborhood while carrying a fixed blade knife.

Witnesses also reported seeing Smith pick up a dog and throw it down on the ground and that they heard the dog yelping.

Smith also reportedly had a verbal altercation with witnesses who reported seeing him with a knife, grab a black and white dog by the neck from inside a residence and slam it onto the ground in a separate incident.
