Helen Fontenot Guillory, 98, of Westlake, La., passed away March 2, 2023 at Villa Maria Assisted Living in Lake Charles. She was born in Point Blue, La., to parents Adelus and Telis Fontenot. Helen married Felton Guillory from Mamou when she was just 16 years old. They were happily married for 62 years before Felton’s death in 2004. They lived in Westlake since 1957. Helen worked at various jobs all her life but favored working at the Westlake Library as she loved books and reading. She worked there for 18 years before retiring at age 74.
Helen enjoyed life. She always had a smile on her face for everyone she met. Helen was her happiest, though, when with her family. She looked forward to family gatherings and loved to play cards and other games with her grandchildren, especially when they were young. She was a “fun” grandmother.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Felton; her oldest son, Paul (recently deceased); and youngest son, Floyd.
Those left to cherish her memories are daughter, Janice Guillory Guillot and husband Michael; daughter-in-law, Ruth Guillory (widow of Floyd), grandchildren, Carl Guillory (Sylvia), Kristine Guillot Handley (Padrick), Mac Guillory (Jessica), Eric Guillot; and three great-grandchildren.
Helen was blessed to have wonderful sitters with her during her later years. With the care of Linda Harris, Carol Thomas, Shirlyn Zeno, and Darlene Ortego, she was able to remain in her home until age 97. Helen then chose to move to Villa Maria Assisted Living and was once again blessed with dedicated, loving sitters, Cynthia Harrison and Keyona Gray. The family will welcome the public for visitation at Hixson Funeral Home of Westlake Tuesday, March 7, 2023 from 10 a.m. until time of funeral service at 1 p.m. Interment will follow at Consolata Cemetery.
