Jean Roberts

Jean Ferguson Roberts, 83, of Lake Charles, passed away at 10:43 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 27, 2023, in a local care facility.
Mrs. Roberts was born on March 19, 1939, in Montgomery, Ala., and was raised in Wisner, La., where she was a graduate of Wisner High School. She began her career as a legal secretary in Winnsboro, La. She moved to Lake Charles in 1984 and continued her career, working for numerous legal firms over many years. Mrs. Roberts later retired to become the church secretary for Livingway Pentecostal Church where she remained for many years.
She devoted her life to serving the Lord and she loved to sing and praise Him. She was also a very talented musician on the piano or the organ. Jean was a spirit filled woman who knew how to pray. She was happiest when she was shut away in the presence of God insomuch she wrote a book about it titled “Shut in with Him.” She became a known speaker in numerous churches around the region where the subject was always prayer.
Those left to cherish her memory are her grandchildren, Shane Cutrer and Jaime Day both of Lake Charles; great grandchildren, Landon Cutrer, Kolten, Kyler, and Kathan Day, and Irené Charles; brother, Bubba Ferguson (Kathy) of Wisner, La.; and son in law, Gerald Price of Lake Charles.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, William “Bill” Roberts; parents, Doris and Peter Ferguson Sr.; daughter, Sherri Price; and grandson, Jason Price.
A funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, March 3, 2023, at Livingway Pentecostal Church on McNeese Street. Pastor Brent Keating, Pastor Lance Stockman, and Bishop Charles Nugent will officiate. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will begin in the church from 12 p.m. until the start of the service.
