In the fourth, Barbe held Southside to five points and took a 48-47 lead on two free throws by Richmond with 1:06 left. Southside’s Landon Baptiste made a free throw with 25 seconds left to send the game to overtime.

The teams traded misses on the first four possessions in overtime. Then Southside held the ball for 2 minutes before Noah Brookner made a free throw with 17 seconds left.

Richmond missed a runner but collected the rebound and was fouled. He swished both attempts to complete the comeback.

“In the second half we did a better job of doing what we originally intended to,” Barbe head coach Carl Klein said. “Early on they were doing a good job of getting out on our shooters and taking away what we wanted. I’m so proud of our kids. They kept fighting and our seniors did a great job of leading the team.”

Jabbari Barry led Barbe with 18 points. Richmond finished with 15 and Ethan Marque added 10.

Southside closed the first quarter with a 10-1 run to take a 20-9 lead. The Sharks kept the pace in the second quarter, extending their lead to as many as 27 points with a balanced scoring attack. Bryson Williams led the way with 10 points. Jasen Breaux added eight while Jayce Toliver and Dynell Jones scored six each as Southside took a 36-21 lead into the halftime break.

The teams split a pair of regular-season games with Southside winning the first game Dec. 30 and Barbe winning in the regular-season finale to earn a share the District 3-5A title.

Williams led Southside with 13 points.
