McNeese splits two games on second day of Cowgirl Classic

McNeese’s two-game winning streak was snapped in an 8-2 loss to Ole Miss in the final game of the day at the Cowgirl Classic on Saturday.
McNeese (10-4) split its two games on the day, beating Stephen F. Austin 5-4 earlier in the day.
Ole Miss (7-5) led wire-to-wire in the nightcap, scoring three runs in the top of the first inning on a two-out, bases loaded double by Paige Smith.
McNeese responded with a run in the bottom of the inning, with Crislyne Moreno doubling to score Rylie Bouvier.
The teams traded runs in the second inning. Ole Miss got a solo homer from catcher Jamie Mackay. McNeese responded with an Emily Phillips triple and pinch-hit RBI hit by Kelsey Gaspard to pull within 4-2.
Mya Stephenson homered for Ole Miss in the third inning. The Rebels scored three runs in the seventh inning. Two runs scored on a Cowgirls throwing error and Savana Sikes added a RBI double.
Stevenson and Smith had two hits each for Ole Miss.
In the first Cowgirls game of the day, freshman Brooke Otto homered in the bottom of the sixth inning to give McNeese a 5-4 win over SFA. It was the first homer of her college career.
Ashley Vallejo earned the win with three scoreless innings of relief.
