Windell Ray Burchfield

Windell Ray Burchfield, born in Amity, Ark., on Dec. 3, 1934, son of the late Noel Burchfield and Chloie Grant Burchfield, passed away in Riverview, Fla., on Feb. 15, 2023, at the age of 88.
Windell was a graduate of Boonville High School, California, and was a member of St. Stephen Catholic Church, Riverview, Florida and also St. Mary Catholic Church, Hot Springs, Ark. He married Judith Vest Burchfield on Jan. 21, 1958, and lived in many states due to serving in the U.S. Airforce and settled in Hot Springs, Ark., where they lived for over 40 years before moving to Riverview, Fla., in 2017. Windell served in the Vietnam War as an Air Force pilot, he served for 14 years and finished his career as a Captain, receiving 2 Distinguished Flying Crosses and 2 Air Medals. After retiring from the U.S. Air Force, he was an Airline Pilot. He enjoyed flying airplanes and loved being with family, especially his grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; and wife, Judith Ann Vest Burchfield.
Survivors are his daughter, Diana Rains and husband Chris of Norman, Okla.; sons, Dennis Burchfield and wife Annie of Riverview, Fla., and Darryl Burchfield and wife Dora of Houston, Texas; grandchildren, Rebecca, Christopher, Jonathan, Briana, Julia, Raymond; five great-grandchildren and one on-the-way.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday, Feb. 25, 2023, at 11 a.m. in St. Raphael Catholic Church in Iowa. The Rev. Anthony Fontenot, Celebrant. Burial will follow in Lacassine Cemetery. Visitation will begin Friday from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m., with a rosary recited at 6 p.m. and visitation will resume Saturday in the funeral home from 8 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.
