Second-season draw Rosepine, Fairview earn No. 1 seeds

Rosepine and Fairview earned top seeds in the girls high school basketball playoff pairings released Monday. The Eagles are the top seed in non-select Division III, while the Panthers, who won the Class B title last season, are the top seed in Division V.
St. Louis Catholic (24-6), which won the select Division II state title each of the last two seasons, enters as the No. 3 seed. The Saints are grouped with another champion from last year in Lafayette Christian. The Knights (25-1) were the Division III champion last season.
Rosepine reached the Class 2A semifinals last year before losing to Rayville. The Eagles will receive a first-round bye after finishing the regular season with a 25-7 record, including a 9-1 record in District 4-3A plan. Amite (23-4), the 2A champion last season, is the second seed in Division III.
Fairview earned the top seed in Division V with a 35-7 regular season. The Panthers will have a host of area challengers, including second-seeded Hathaway (29-4), the undefeated District 6-B champion. The Hornets will have a first-round bye and will host the winner of No. 15 Hornbeck-No. 18 Lacassine in the regional round.
Reeves (26-6) is the fifth seed after finishing runner-up to Fairview in District 5-C. Fairview swept three regular-season games against the Raiders, and also owns a regular-season victory over Hathaway.
The Raiders will host No. 21 Simpson in the opening round. Bell City is the No. 12 seed and will open at home against No. 21 Simpson. Reeves and Bell City would meet in the regional round should both win their opening-round games.
Also earning top five seeds in non-select brackets were Barbe, the third seed in Division I and LaGrange, the fifth seed in Division II, The Bucs (27-4) will have a bye in the first round while the Gators will host No. 28 Pearl River. The Gators (23-8) could face No. 21 Leesville (17-12), which shared the District 3-4A title with the Gators, in the second round. The Wampus Cats will travel to No. 12 Breaux Bridge in the first round.
In the non-select brackets, St. Louis and Hamilton Christian both earned first-round byes. The Saints will host the winner of No. 14 Carver-No. 19 Booker T. Washington-Shreveport in the regional round.
Hamilton Christian (22-5) earned the sixth seed in Division IV and will play the winner of No. 11 Ascension Catholic-No. 22 Central Private.
