Rachel Melancon, 84, of Lake Charles, passed away Sunday, Jan. 29, 2023, at her home. Rachel was born March 8, 1938, to Clifton and Marie Himel in Port Arthur, Texas. After graduating high school, Rachel obtained an associate degree in cosmetology and began working in the field where she worked her way into management.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 66 years, Carroll Melancon of Lake Charles; two sons, Brian Melancon of Sulphur, and Dwayne Melancon of Lake Charles; two grandchildren, Stephanie Melancon of Lake Charles, and Brandon Melancon of Shreveport. She is also survived by a brother, Glenn Himel; and a sister, Tammey Credeur.
A time of gathering for family and friends will be from 12 p.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, 2023, with her memorial service beginning at 1 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home, 4321 Lake St., Lake Charles, LA 70605. Monsignor Harry Greig of St. Margaret will be presiding over the Memorial service. Cremation arrangements were handled through Johnson Funeral Home.
