Herman Joseph Rogers Jr., 43, of Jarrell, Texas, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 2, 2023, in his residence in Jarrell.
Herman was born Nov. 15, 1979, in Lake Charles, La., where he was raised. He was a 1997 graduate of LaGrange High School, where he played basketball. He went on to graduate from McNeese State University with his Bachelor of Science in Biology and was a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. He was a member of United Christian Fellowship, where he served as an usher, sang in the choir and played basketball. Herman moved to Texas in 2007, working at various hospitals until landing his dream job nine years ago at Sonic Reference Lab and worked his way to management. Herman was a Mason, studied Jujutsu, was an avid reader and loved Cross-fit and lifting weights. He will always be remembered as a smart, kind-hearted, loving and sensitive man and will be missed dearly.
Herman is survived by his parents, Jacquelyn Andrus Stevens and Harry Stevens Jr. of Lake Charles; siblings, Christalle Gibbings (Ulysses) of Lafayette, Tremain Stewart (Tapestry) of Baton Rouge, Alexandra Glieden-Waldschütz (Patrick) of Trier, Germany, and Natessha Drayton of Sacramento, Calif.; nieces and nephews, Christopher Joseph Gibbings, Austin Gibbings, Cheyenne Jenkins, Savannah Jenkins, Tyrique Drayton, Lisa Glieden, Lucas Glieden, India Stewart, Zhouri Stewart, and Tahir Stewart; and great-niece, Kahalanni Drayton; aunts and uncles, Creig Andrus, Sandra Moses, Antonio Rogers, Gerald Rogers, Shirley Rogers Prince, Lisa Rogers Powers, Althea Hall (Christopher), and Jeannie Stevens; along with numerous other cousins, family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Herman Joseph Rogers Sr.; grandparents, Edmonia Rogers, Earl and Dorothy Rogers, Daniel Donald and Myrtis Andrus Sr., Vernall Harmon and Harry Stevens Sr.; uncles, Daniel Andrus, Sr. and Larry Stevens Sr.; and aunt, Geraldine Rogers.
His funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 11, 2023, at United Christian Fellowship. The Rev. Keith Bell will officiate. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery, under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at the church on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the start of the service.
