LaGrange’s basketball teams will look to continue their dominance of District 3-4A when they host Rayne tonight in a doubleheader.

The Gators have yet to lose a district game, with both teams 5-0 in district. The girls are 19-7 and enter on a seven-game winning streak, including a 53-45 win at Rayne (12-10, 4-1) on Jan. 13.

Head coach La’Keem Holmes said his team is hitting its stride.

“We’re starting to execute better,” Holmes said. “We’re starting to execute better and players are starting to get more comfortable.”

Kylei Leblanc has been making things uncomfortable for opponents, scoring 43 points over the Gators last two games. She had 21 points and 14 rebounds in the first game against Rayne.

Holmes said he hopes the Gators’ recent form can lead to playoff success.

“I’m hoping we can have consistency over the rest of the regular season and continue to improve our execution,” he said. “I’m pleased with how hard we play, that’s been a staple of our program. Now I want us to be more. This team is capable of making a run.”

Rayne is the only opponent to stay within double digits of the Gators.

“They are an athletic, scrappy team that plays hard,” Holmes said of the Wolves.

The Gators have won 29 district games in a row and are in search of a fourth consecutive undefeated run through league play.

The Gators enter on a 10-game winning streak, including a 72-71 overtime win Friday night at DeRidder. Omarion Randolph scored 21 points to lead the Gators. Rayne (10-13, 3-1) is in second place in the district.

LaGrange won the first game 57-38, with Rayne (10-13, 3-1) posting its season-worst scoring total. The Gators can clinch their first winning district record since the 2018-19 with a win. Defense has been the team’s calling card. The Gators have allowed an average of 53 points per game during their winning streak.

“Defense and rebounding have been the big things we have done well during this stretch,” head coach Jason Wilson said. “We’ve buckled down on rebounding. On offense, we’ve been selfless and sharing the ball. We played without two starters and some key reserves for a while but have gotten healthy.”
