Melanie Marie Woods, or “Mel” as she was known, sadly passed away Jan. 23, 2023, surrounded by her family. Mel was a special, beautiful soul, always ready to give a smile or make us laugh with her silly comments. Mel was born in Lake Charles, Louisiana on March 11, 1963. Most of her life was spent being cared for by her adoring parents, Otray and Bobbie Woods. She spent her later years being cared for outside of the hands of her family, and the Woods Family would like to praise and thank all those who had the privilege of touching her life.
Mel was preceded in death by her beloved father, Otray J. Woods Jr.; and two siblings, Judith Marie Woods and John Christopher Woods. She leaves behind, her mother, Barbara “Bobbie” Comeaux Woods; brothers, David (Joan) Woods of Cold Spring, Texas, Tim (Theresa) Woods; and sister, Rachelle Woods Hebert of Lake Charles; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Her funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 26, 2023, in the Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles Chapel. Msgr. Jace Eskind will preside. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the start of the service at 12 Noon.
Pallbearers are her nephews, Jeremy Woods, Mitchel Woods, Gabriel Hebert, and her cousins, Keith Comeaux, Paul Comeaux, and Austin Woods. Honorary pallbearers are, her nephew, Douglas Woods and her nieces, Emily Woods and Lindsey Woods.
