Janice Marie Brammer

Janice Marie Brammer was born on June 3, 1926, in Alexandria, La.; the daughter of Jean Pierre and Ruth Normand. After moving to Lake Charles in 1935 Janice attended Lake Charles High School where she received the nickname, “Pickles.” She attended Enterprise Baptist Church and worked at Muller’s Department Store in the shoe department. Janice married Karl Edmund Brammer on Dec. 29, 1945, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Lake Charles, La. Throughout her 96 years she volunteered as a Pink Lady at Gonzales Hospital, at her children’s schools, and always worked on projects in her sewing room. Her homemade quilts are still used by her children, grandchildren, and beyond. She was always active in various church activities. Janice’s heart’s desire would be that everyone would know the Lord Jesus Christ as their personal Savior.
Janice is survived by her four children, Cynthia Ruth Griffith of Baton Rouge, Martha Anna Olson (Rod) of Gonzales, Peter Normand Brammer (Teresa) of Lake Charles, and Elizabeth Dorothea Decker (Dan) of Janesville, Wisconsin; 11 grandchildren, Ronald Hughes (Miranda), Stefanie Fletcher (Darrell), Karl Joseph Hughes (Debra), Angelique Hutchison, Dagmar Hebert (Clayton), Daiva Bhandari (Neil), Jeremy Brammer, Megan Brammer, James Decker (Danielle), Faith Wiechers (Eric) and Jakobi Decker. There are also numerous great, great-greats and several bonus great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews and two first cousins. Janice was preceded in death by her husband, Karl Edmund Brammer; parents, Jean Pierre and Ruth (Hannigan) Normand; her brothers, John and Allen Normand; and sister, Bettye Garnett. Family and friends are invited to attend the visitation which will be held at Ourso Funeral Home on Thursday, Jan. 12, 2023, from 9:30 a.m.-11 a.m. A Celebration of Janice’s Life will follow at 11 a.m. Burial service at Highland Memory Gardens in Lake Charles, will be Friday, Jan. 13, 2023, at 1 p.m. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Azalea Estates in Gonzales for the almost 16 years of care they gave to Janice. Special thanks to all her sweet caregivers the last year of her life. And the staff at The Crossing in Baton Rouge for their loving care for our Mother.
