Alma Ruth (Dunham) Smith, 89, of DeQuincy, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, Dec. 11, 2022, at her residence. She was born on Sept. 22, 1933, in DeQuincy, La., to her late parents, Ben and Eula Rae Dunham.
She was a member of the DHS Class of 1952. Alma married Noah Smith Jr. on July 2, 1950. She taught for many years in DeQuincy where she was a school teacher and Librarian. She loved her students, and took great pride in giving them the best education possible. Alma was able to keep in touch with her students for many years through social media.
Alma was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in DeQuincy for many years. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family, whom she loved very much.
She is survived by her son, William Dalton Smith of DeQuincy, La.; and grandson, Matthew Dunham Myres and his fiancée’ Jennifer Suchon of Buda, Texas.
Alma was preceded in death by her loving husband of 71 years, Noah Smith Jr.; her parents; along with her daughter, Teresa Jo Myres.
A Celebration of Alma’s life will be held at First Baptist Church in DeQuincy, La., on Friday, Dec. 16, 2022, at 11 a.m. Bro. Gil Arthur and Bro. David Earnest will officiate. Visitation will be at First Baptist Church in DeQuincy on Thursday, Dec. 15, 2022, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Visitation will resume at the church on Friday, from 9 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow at Perkins Cemetery.
