Additional arrest made, charges for another upgraded in drive-by-shooting death of 6-year-old

Charges have been upgraded and another arrest made in the March 20 drive-by shooting death of a 6-year-old girl in the 1400 block of Mill Street.

Lake Charles Police Deputy Chief Franklin Fondel said the shooting was the result of a retaliation from an ongoing earlier incident and detectives were able to identify a number of suspects who connected themselves to an organization referred to by the suspects as “NawfSideBabies.”

Based off their investigative efforts and evidence obtained, detectives secured a number of arrest warrants. Between March 23 and April 4, officers with the LCPD SWAT Team served these warrants, apprehending the following suspects: Elijah Paul Carter (age 18), Devonte Jermaine Glodd (26), Jaylyn Lamar Botley (23), Zaylon Ray Wheeler (18), Martice Michelle Caine (22), Christopher Demon Orphey (18), Keyaisa Michelle Siverand (23), Ja’Michael Issiah Siverand (22), Jessie James Siverand (19), Joshua Demonte Siverand (22) and Jeremy Donald Collins (26). Michael Carter, 19, turned himself in to police April 7.

Charges have been upgraded to one count of first-degree murder, principal for Collins. He was previously charged with one count of second-degree murder, principal. Judge Tony Fazzio has set a bond of $4 million on the upgraded charge.

Additionally, an arrest warrant was secured for 32-year-old Anthony D. Tyler Jr. for one count of first-degree murder. On Dec. 12, officers with the LCPD SWAT Team took Tyler into custody without incident. Fazzio set bond at $4 million and Tyler remains in custody at the Calcasieu Correctional Center.
