Wilmer John Ledet Sr.

Wilmer John Ledet Sr., “Uncle Wilmer” was born on Oct. 8, 1938, to Elvin Antonio Ledet Sr. and Lillian Victorian Cooper in Oberlin, La. Wilmer worked for PPG Industries for 29 years as a lead operator. Wilmer was known as Uncle Wilmer to many of his younger cousins and teens who wanted to become cowboys as they came under his tutelage. He mentored many young men on how to become a cowboy. In his younger days, he enjoyed hunting with his close friends and family. As well as spending lots of time in the country with his animals. He belonged to the trail ride group Lake Charles Connection TrailRiders for many years. They were known for six day rides during the fall. He was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, uncle and so much more. Wilmer peacefully passed away at his residence on Nov. 29, 2022 at the age of 84 years old.
Wilmer is survived by his wife of 53 years, Theresa Popillion Ledet; his son, Wilmer John “Jay” (Catina) Ledet of Lake Charles, La.; Tammy Monique Ledet (Charles) Guillory of Lake Charles, La.; grandchildren, Ashley Shanae Ledet, Joseph (Julienne ) Guillory, LaTresha Mercedes Ledet, Kleigh Alexandria Guillory, Ceairra Brandon Miller, Corie Renee Ledet, and Christopher Elijah Ledet; six great-grandchildren; siblings, Dorothy Ledet Brown of Houston, Texas, Elvin James (Penny) Ledet Jr. of St. Louis, Irene Ledet (Rodney) Botley of Oberlin, La., Barbara Neil Carter of Oberlin, La., Carroll “Ki-U” (Anette) Ledet of Houston, Texas, Linda (James) Gradney of Oberlin, La.; godson, Christopher Ardamian (Michelle) Meeks Sr., of Lake Charles, La.; goddaughters, Naomi D Tobe and Lorraine Victorian; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Elvin Antonio Ledet Sr. and Lillian Victorian Cooper; granddaughter, CarLeigh Donnetta Guillory; brothers, Wilbert (Red) Ledet, Johnny Ledet Sr., Victor (Pipe) Ledet Sr., and Louis Ledet; sister, LaDora Ledet Harmon; nephews, John Hampton, Ryan Oneal Ledet, Lavail Meeks Sr., Raylin Jamar Popillion, Dean Popillion; and nieces, MaryAnn Simon-Richardson, Stephanie Gail Popillion; and great-niece, PrinceElla Davion Parnell.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, Dec. 10, 2022, at 9 a.m., at King’s Funeral Home and funeral service at 11 a.m. at St. Henry Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery under the direction of King’s Funeral Home.
