Charles Martin Koonce, age 85, of Sulphur, La., passed away peacefully in his home on Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2022. Charles was born on Sept. 13, 1937, in Sulphur.
Charles proudly served in the U.S. Army. He was a longtime member of Our Lady of LaSalette Catholic Church. Charles retired from Olin Chemical after 45 years of service. He loved to garden, watch westerns, fish, and watch football in his spare time.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Evelyn Koonce; a brother, Joseph Koonce; and a sister, JoAnn Treme.
Those left behind to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 59 years, Joyce Koonce; daughters, Darlene Williams (Don) and Melissa Alexander; grandchildren, Jillian Stogner and husband, David, Morgan, Laken, and Camdyn Alexander; great-grandchildren, Kenzie, Lane, Ellie, Aubrie, Kora, Kade and Kynlee; brother, David Scott Koonce; sisters, Grace Marie Wilson and Mary Elaine Koonce; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will begin at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 18, 2022, at Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home with a Rosary beginning at 6 p.m. Visitation will resume at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 19, 2022, at Our Lady of LaSalette Catholic Church with the Rev. John Welch officiating. Burial will follow in Royer Cemetery in Sulphur under the direction of Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home.
