Barbe High pitcher Landon Victorian, ranked the nation’s No. 12 recruit in the Class of 2024 by Perfect Game USA, committed to play at LSU.
Victorian said he chose the Tigers over Texas and Texas A&M. He said he visited all three schools and that his final visit was to LSU during the last weekend of September.
A junior right-hander, he is the state’s top-ranked recruit by Prep Baseball Report. Last season he was 10-1 with a 1.04 ERA and 94 strikeouts in 74 innings pitched. He helped the Bucs to a District 3-5A championship and 36-4 record, allowing 28 hits and 25 walks..
“I like the way they treated me, when they showed me around the campus it was awesome,” Victorian said of LSU. “With what they are building, the future is going to be awesome.
“I’m also really grateful to the other schools, but LSU is the place that felt like home to me.”
Barbe head coach Glenn Cecchini said Victorian has all the intangibles needed to succeed.
“He is a fierce competitor and is very driven to succeed,” Cecchini said. “He is very smart and he wants to get better. Once you tell him something, he has it, you never have to tell him anything twice. He challenges himself to be the best version of himself.
“After he pitches he works out on his own. He’s got it all. He has the size and the discipline to do what others don’t want to do. I am blessed to be able to coach him.”
Cecchini said Victorian is still improving.
“Now he has a good change-up,” he said. “Before he didn’t really have one, but he worked on it all summer. He is constantly getting better.”
Former teammate Gavin Guidry, a freshman with the Tigers, helped recruit Victorian. Both Victorian and Guidry went undefeated in the regular season as the top two Bucs starters last season. Guidry is expected to play as an infielder at LSU.
Victorian also plays football. This season he has 22 receptions for 400 yards and four touchdowns as a wide receiver.
