Rayne wheels way to victory, scores 35 first-half points

Rayne receiver Kylin Wheeler continued his assault on local defenses, scoring three first-half touchdowns to lead the Wolves to a 49-20 District 3-4A win over Washington-Marion Thursday night.

Last week Wheeler scored five touchdowns in a win over LaGrange.

W-M (0-7, 0-3) got on the board first with a 1-yard, fourth-down touchdown run by DeKhory Flagg, but Rayne (4-4, 2-1) took control with touchdowns on four consecutive possessions.

Wheeler started the outburst with a 12-yard reception from Dylan Judice on a fourth-and-goal play. On the first play of the next drive, he took a reverse 70 yards for another touchdown.

Korey Malone scored on a 30-yard pass from Judice before Wheeler capped the scoring binge with an 11-yard run on an end-around to give the Wolves a 28-6 lead.

Flagg scored again on a 14-yard run in the second quarter, but Malone made a leaping grab over a W-M defender for a 37- yard touchdown to give Rayne a 35-12 halftime lead.

Wheeler had three runs for 85 yards and three receptions for 75 yards in the first half. The Wolves ran for 178 yards and threw for 145 in the half.

Rayne added a third-quarter touchdown on a 24-yard run by Darian Chevalier.

Malone scored his third touchdown on a 5-yard run early in the fourth quarter.

Flagg scored on a 14-yard scramble down the right sideline for his third touchdown.

Wheeler finished with 110 rushing yards. Juwan Daniel added 116 yards on 24 carries. Malone had a total of 115 yards rushing and receiving. John David Dupont intercepted two passes for Rayne.

Flagg led W-M with 74 rushing yards and 103 passing yards. Elijah Netty had three receptions for 48 yards.

Rayne outrushed the Charging Indians 330-88.
