Three Point Stance: Allen Parish rivalry highlights Week 2

In this week’s edition of the Three Point Stance, Rodrick Anderson and Warren Arceneaux discuss Week 2 football games involving area small schools.

What is the most interesting game?

WA: Oakdale at Oberlin, Friday. The traditional rivals meet in what will be the season opener for the Warriors, whose Week 1 game against Vinton was canceled. Oberlin opened with a dominant win over Pine Prairie.

RA: Welsh at Westlake, Friday. Westlake flexed its muscle on offense last week as new quarterback Kevin Rideau tossed three TDs as the offense totaled 337 yards. Welsh’s game against Kinder was called at halftime on Saturday because of inclement weather, but the Greyhounds’ defense had a good showing as they kept the Yellow Jackets out of the end zone and Hayden VanNess had a pick-six.

Name a Class 1A player to watch.

WA: Merryville QB Remington Coody started the season in style, throwing for 140 yards and two touchdowns and running for 36 yards and another score to lead the Panthers to a 32-23 win over North Central. The Panthers host Vinton Thursday.

RA: In his first start at running back, DeMarcus Jack ran for 217 yards and two TDs to lead Elton to its first win since 2018. The Indians head to central La. on Friday to face Northwood-Lena and start a win streak.

Name a Class 2A player to watch.

WA: Grand Lake QB/DB Connor Guillotte recovered two fumbles against Hamilton Christian, returning the first 35 yards to set up a short touchdown drive. The Hornets host Westminster Thursday night.

RA: Rosepine junior Michael Woods is developing into a two-way player. In last week’s win over East Beauregard, Woods had 61/2 tackles and a sack and caught a 19-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter.

The Eagles host 3A South Beauregard on Friday.
