In this edition of the Three Point Stance, staff writers Rodrick Anderson and Warren Arceneaux review Week 1 of the high school football season.

Which team had the most impressive win?

WA: New-look Iowa beat a good and experienced Iota team 27-8. Ronald Young led the way with 175 yards and three touchdowns rushing.

RA: Elton ended a 23-game losing streak that dated to the 2018 season with a 48-12 win over Pickering. Running backs DeMarcus Jack and Sherman Bellow combined for 348 yards and six touchdowns.

Name a large schools player of the week.

WA: St. Louis Catholic quarterback Janes Reina ran for 139 yards and five touchdowns and threw for 73 yards and another score to lead the Saints to a 49-22 win over Crowley.

RA: Westlake two-sport star Tristan Goodly found the end zone four times in the Rams’ 46-12 win over DeQuincy. He had two rushing and two receiving touchdowns with 104 total yards on eight touches.

Name a small schools player of the week.

WA: Grand Lake fullback Ian Vigo ran for 197 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Hornets past Hamilton Christian.

RA: In his second start of his career at quarterback, Rosepine senior Jake Smith slung the ball all over the field as the Eagles beat East Beauregard 51-6. Smith completed 10 of 19 passes for 273 yards and six touchdowns, three to Aden Cline.
