Eighty mosquito samples tested positive for West Nile Virus statewide this week.

Cameron Parish had one positive sample from the Big Lake area. This area has already been sprayed by the parish’s plane since the sample was collected, and is scheduled to be treated again Friday night by truck. It will be treated by air again in the near future if weather permits.

Residents can protect themselves by reducing their exposure to mosquitoes especially during dusk, dawn, and night time hours, wearing long protective clothing, using mosquito repellent, and emptying any containers on your property that are holding water.
