A Jennings man was arrested on aggravated assault charges Saturday after sheriff’s deputies said he shot at firemen responding to a gas leak call on Dave Williams Road.
Linus Whitley Landry, 57, was arrested on charges of resisting an officer and aggravated assault with a firearm.
Jeff Davis Parish Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Chris Ivey said deputies were dispatched to 5406 Dave Williams Road northwest of Jennings in reference to a suspicious vehicle.
The complaint, who was later identified as Landry, was upset because an unidentified white truck was parked across the road from his residence. He advised the dispatcher on a recorded line, “he was about to put holes in the truck.” He also indicated that he had fired a warning shot with his AR-rifle, but the vehicle did not move.
When deputies arrived, they discovered the truck was there along with fire trucks from Jeff Davis Fire District 2 who were responding to a gas leak call.
The district fire chief and volunteers were waiting for deputies to arrive before going back to their vehicles, Ivey said.
