Two suspects wanted for attempted armed robbery in DeQuincy are now in custody after a two-day manhunt, according to authorities.

Garrett Jensen, 21, was arrested Wednesday afternoon after authorities executed a search warrant at a Sulphur residence.

A 17 year-old juvenile who assisted Jensen was arrested Wednesday evening when detectives said he attempted to retrieve weapons the pair hid while on the run through the Oretta area.

“We had a feeling they might make an attempt to go back for them and so we were watching that area closely,” DeQuincy’s Major Chief of Detectives Jerry Bell said.

Jensen was processed at the DeQuincy Police Department before being transferred to the Calcasieu Correctional Center and the juvenile will be transported to a juvenile detention center, Bell said.

DeQuincy Police Chief Casey Whitehead said capturing the two suspects was the result of a joint operation between multiple agencies who worked together to gather and share information.

“This was a combined effort to get Jensen off the streets between Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office, Beauregard Parish Sheriff’s Office and the DeQuincy Police Department,” Whitehead said.

The hunt for the two suspects began on Tuesday morning after a woman called 911 to report that a man had pointed a gun at her and demanded money.

The woman told detectives that as she was walking out of her residence on Yoakum Street to get into her friend’s waiting car, a green Ford F150 truck pulled up and blocked her friend’s car in the driveway.

The woman said a man she knew to be Jensen got out of the vehicle and demanded money from her. When she refused, the victim said Jensen allegedly produced a pistol, chambered a round and then pointed it at her, saying he needed money.

The juvenile with Jensen also allegedly pointed a gun at the woman.

The victim said she told Jensen she would make a call to get the money, and that was when she dialed 911.

Chief Whitehead and Chief of Detectives Major Jerry Bell responded to the call and began to pursue Jensen as he fled the scene.

The high speed chase ended in the Oretta area when Jensen pulled onto a logging road and he and the juvenile fled on foot into a nearby wooded area. That is when, according to Bell, the pair hid the guns used in the attempted robbery.

Bell said that Beauregard Parish Narcotics detectives searched Jensen’s truck at the scene and located methamphetamine, narcan and other substances, and a fully loaded clip of 9mm bullets and other bullets.

They also located a small puppy “chained” in the vehicle.

In addition to the charges from Tuesday’s incident, Bell said that Jensen will also be facing several other outstanding warrants against him out of DeQuincy and Calcasieu Parish for other, unrelated crimes.
