The King family is mourning the loss of Alvin Bardine King. He passed away surrounded by his loved ones on June 2, 2022, after a long battle with Leukemia.
His fighting spirit stems from a long line of tenacious politicians, attorneys and business leaders. His grandfather was the former Louisiana Governor, Alvin O. King. His father, Voris King, was a prominent business/civic leader in the Lake Charles area for decades.
Born on April 24, 1945, Alvin was the youngest of 4 children and admits (with a big smile) he was favored by his mother, Frances Thompson King. He credits Frances for cultivating his love of reading and encouraging his passion for team sports.
While attending Lake Charles High, Alvin excelled at football, basketball and track. His athleticism garnered attention from several colleges, but he chose to follow in the family footsteps and pursue law. He graduated from Tulane Law School, and would later establish his own law firm as a defense attorney. For 20 years he served as magistrate judge in the Vinton courts. He also managed King Corporation and King Minerals.
Because of Alvin’s love for his church, the family respectfully requests donations in his honor be sent to St Mary’s Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 1542, Cypress, TX 77410. People who choose to donate please mark on their check in the memo block “Alvin King Memorial Fund.”
