Paramedic Joseph Sylvester was recognized last week as an exceptional Paramedic in the southwest region by his colleagues at Acadian Ambulance.
Sylvester represents the company’s Southwest Louisiana service area, and was nominated by his peers as a finalist for the statewide Paramedic of the Year award.
Sylvester was one of 32 Paramedics across the state to be considered for the honor, with the top winner selected by a company-wide committee.
A native of Crowley, Sylvester has been with Acadian Ambulance for more than 30 years, and has worked in the Vermilion, Acadia, Jeff Davis, and Calcasieu parishes.
Acadian’s Operations Manager John Dubose described Sylvester as having a remarkable work ethic and exemplary paramedic skills, but said it was his positive attitude and leadership skills that really set Sylvester apart from others.
“He leads by example and challenges his teammates to do the right thing. Joe has truly dedicated his adult life to helping others,” Dubose stated.
Acadian Ambulance celebrated the winners of its Paramedic and EMT of the Year award during the first in-person event in two years on Thursday, June 2.
CBS Mornings lead national correspondent David Begnaud, who grew up in Lafayette, served as the event’s keynote speaker.
The ultimate winner of Paramedic of the Year honors went to Victoria Dantin, stationed out of Donaldsonville.
