The St. Louis Catholic girls were down a few athletes but still held their own Friday to win the Washington-Marion Charging Indians Relays.
The Saints scored 198 points, scoring at least 10 points in 13 events including all six field events.
“We held some kids out of the relays,” St. Louis head coach Johnny Giordano said. “We had some minor (injuries) coming off that performance at Shreveport last week where we had to run in the mid-40s. So we are trying to be safe.
“We got a couple people dinged up, and they are mostly our sprinters and relays, so we held them out. Some younger kids got some opportunities and ran some great times. Hannah Boullion ran 59 in the open 400 as a freshman. Kassidy Richard moved into No. 2 in the state in the 300 hurdles. We had a lot of good things. And of course, Ella Segura and Emma Freeman did what they normally do.”
Freeman scored 28 points in the field for the Saints, winning the discus (120-21/2) and javelin (121-10) plus a second in the shot put (33-21/2).
Boullion won the 400-meter run in 59.75 seconds, and Richard clocked in at 47.84 in the 300 hurdles. Segura won the 1,600 (5:24.05).
St. Louis basketball star Myca Trail competed in the high jump for the first time and won gold, clearing 5 feet, 2 inches.
Leesville won the boys title with 172.5 points led by distance runner Keeton Johnson who won the 800 (2:06.82), 1,600 (4:25.33) and 3,200 (10:53.32). Frank Ford swept the hurdles with a 15.99 in the 110 and 43.69 in the 300.
Lake Charles College Prep was the boys and girls runner-up.
LCCP sprinter Jayla Mason normally runs the 400 but tried the 100 (12.28) and 200 (25.70) Friday and won both.
