Freshman Crislyne Moreno continued her hot streak, belting a home run and driving in four runs to lead McNeese State to a 14-1 softball win in five innings over Southern University Thursday night at Cowgirl Diamond.
The win snapped a four-game losing streak for McNeese.
Moreno moved into the starting lineup over the weekend and had three hits in as many games.
The Cowgirls (11-12) scored three times in the first, third and fourth innings, breaking out for five runs in the second inning.
In the first inning, Moreno doubled to score Josie Willingham and Jil Poullard, then scored on a grounder by Reese Reyna.
McNeese stretched the lead to 8-0 in the second. Kendall Talley tripled and scored on an Alayis Seneca sacrifice fly. Poullard hit a solo homer and Kennedy Reynolds followed with a two-run shot to left field.
A two-run homer to left by Moreno highlighted a three-run third for McNeese.
Southern (4-18) got on the board in the fourth inning with Barbe alumnus Alana Mark doubling down the right-field line to score Julia York.
McNeese put the game away with three more runs in the fourth inning, highlighted by a Talley sacrifice fly RBI and two-run pinch-hit single by Chloe Gomez.
Moreno finished with three hits, three runs and four RBIs. Poullard reached on two hits and two walks and scored three runs.
Shaelyn Sanders (3-0) was the winning pitcher. McNeese used all four pitchers in the game.
The 13 runs scored matched McNeese’s best offensive game of the season.
McNeese plays a three-game series at Baylor this weekend before opening Southland Conference play at home against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi next weekend.
