No one was injured in a drive-by shooting Wednesday in the 800 block of Martin Luther King Street, Welsh Police Department officials said.

Police Chief Marcus Crochet said police responded to the scene between 7-7:30 p.m. in reference to shots being fired at a vehicle parked outside a residence.

A preliminary investigation indicated the suspect or suspects fired multiple shots at a vehicle which was occupied by a female. The woman, who was sitting inside the parked vehicle, was not injured, Crochet said.

The suspect then left the area in what is believed to be a silver color vehicle, according to Crochet.

“At this time we have no suspects other than mixed stories about the possible color of the vehicle,” Crochet said. ‘Nobody really saw anything.”

Bullet holes were found in two vehicles parked outside the residence.

Crochet said police are investigating any connection to the drive-by shooting and a separate shooting on Feb. 10 in which one man was found lying in the 600 block of Welsh Street.

“We haven’t had anything in a long time and now we have back-to-back shootings so we want to check out everything to see any connections the leads may have,” Crochet said.

No arrests have been made in either shootings.

Crochet said the victim and witnesses from the Feb. 10 shooting have refused to cooperate with investigators.

A person of interest was interviewed, but no formal charges have been filed, he said.

The shooting occurred around noon Feb. 10 outside a residence near the corner of Coleman and Welsh streets.

The victim, whose name has not been released, suffered a gunshot wound to the upper thigh. He was treated and released from a local hospital.

Anyone who has information on either shooting is asked to contact the Welsh Police Department at 337-734-2626.
