Four juveniles were arrested Friday night after authorities say multiple fights broke out a basketball game at the DeRidder High School.
Officials with the Beauregard Parish Sheriff’s Office and DeRidder Police issued a joint release Saturday that said the incident began outside the school’s gymnasium at 9:15 p.m.
Authorities said that as officers with both agencies responded to the scene and attempted to stop the fight, multiple deputies were attacked by multiple juveniles, and that deputies were struck in the face, head and from behind.
As other deputies and officers arrived to assist at the scene, authorities said the crowd refused to follow directions to disperse and that more fights broke out between juveniles across the parking lot.
One juvenile was arrested for Disturbing the Peace/Fighting and was released to their parents with a summons. Three other juveniles were arrested for Disturbing the Peace/Fighting and Resisting an Officer by Force or Violence and Battery on a Police Officer.
Authorities said those three juveniles were booked into the Beauregard Parish Jail and released to their parents after booking.
Videos of the incident were shared on social media depicting officers detaining a juvenile on the ground during the incident, and authorities say they are continuing to review all available footage.
Anyone with information or videos of other parts of the incident is encouraged to contact the Beauregard Parish Sheriff’s Office or the DeRidder Police Department.
