A Lake Charles man was sentenced to 80 years in prison on Friday in the 2018 kidnapping of a local woman.
Judge David Ritchie sentenced R.J. Bartie, 41, to 30 years on one count of home invasion, 30 years on one count of second-degree kidnapping and 20 years on one count of attempted second-degree kidnapping. The sentences are to run concurrently and are all without benefit of probation, parole or suspension of sentence.
Bartie was found guilty in September.
He was accused of knocking on the door of the victim’s home in 2018 and pointing a weapon at everyone inside when the door opened. Bartie then entered the home without authorization and forced the victim inside his vehicle.
The victim was able to escape, but was later caught again by Bartie when she made it home.
During the victim’s second escape attempt her father shot Bartie and she was able to get to safety.
After treatment at a local hospital, Bartie was arrested.
