A 37-year-old Kinder man was sentenced to two life sentences without benefit of probation, parole or suspension of sentence Friday on two counts of first degree murder.
Judge David Ritchie sentenced Scott M. Kidd, 37, Kinder, for the 2020 slaying of an Iowa couple. According to the Calcasieu Sheriff’s Office, Kidd entered the home of the victims on Thompson Avenue without authorization. Upon entering the home, Kidd brutally shot and killed the victims, stole their belongings and fled the scene. First Assistant District Attorney Jacob Johnson and Assistant District Attorney Joey Williams prosecuted the case for the Calcasieu Parish District Attorney’s Office.
Kidd was arrested Aug. 30, 2020, in Eunice on an unrelated warrant the day after the deaths.
Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office Deputy Chief Stitch Guillory told the American Press at that time that Kidd was a long-time acquaintance of Joan O’Brien, 73, and Zoren O’Brien, 81.
