Voters secure Beauregard Health Unit’s future

The future of the Beauregard Parish Health Unit was secured on Saturday as voters approved to continue a tax that funds the facility’s operations.
According to unofficial results from the Secretary of State’s Office, 62 percent of votes, or 1,869 out of a total of 3,023 votes cast, approved the continuation of a 2.42 millage for another 10 years that is dedicated to ongoing operations at the health unit in DeRidder. The tax is estimated to collect $684,000 each year.
Voters also approved the continuation of a 1.25 mill tax that will support the War Memorial Civic Center in DeRidder for another 10 years. Unofficial results show that 64 percent, or 1,936 votes out of 3,017, were cast in favor of the tax continuation.
Voters in the South Beauregard Recreational District approved the renewal of a 10.00 mill tax for 12 years by a margin of 65 percent, or 548 votes out of a total of 844.
The tax is expected to collect an estimated $911,202.22 each year for the purpose of acquiring, constructing, improving and maintaining the district’s community and recreation facilities, as well as its parks and playgrounds.
In statewide voting, Beauregard Parish voters rejected three out of the four state amendments on Saturday’s ballot, voting in favor only of amendment No. 2 regarding tax reform with 55 percent of votes.
