ELTON – A Mass of Christian Burial for Verian Ann Ortego, 91, will be held on Saturday, Oct. 23, 2021 at St. Paul Catholic Church at 1 p.m. The Rev. Fr. Jose Vattekunnel will officiate. Verian will be laid to rest at St. Paul Cemetery under the direction of Ardoin/Allen Parish Funeral Homes.
The family will receive visitors at St. Paul Catholic Church on Saturday morning from 9 a.m. until time of service with the Holy Rosary being prayed at 11 a.m.
Verian was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, and friend. She was a lifelong resident of Elton and Valedictorian of her 1947 graduating class of Elton High School. She worked at Elton City Hall for many years until her well-deserved retirement at the age of 80. During her time at Elton City Hall, she served as Alderman, Justice of the Peace, Notary Public and prepared income taxes for local residents and farmers. Verian was honored as the Grand Marshall of the Elton Christmas Parade in 2011. She was an avid reader and gardener who loved work and politics. She was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church for her entire life where she was active in Ladies Altar Society for many years. Verian will be forever loved and greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Those left to cherish Verian’s memory include her two sons, Bert Bolt and wife, Sonia of LaRose; and Richard Bolt and wife, Carolyn of Elton; her 11 grandchildren, Jason Long and wife Pam of Moss Bluff, Jeffrey Long of Moss Bluff, Angelica Long of Moss Bluff, Jessica Osborne and her significant other, David Gomez of Groves, Texas, Sam Bolt of Elton, Jessica Estillette of Fort Worth, Texas, Jarrod Bolt and wife Leah of Pineville, Brandon Bolt and wife Yusherya of Fort LeJeune, N.C., Jennica Boudreaux and husband Al John of LaRose, Amy Bolt of LaRose, and Dorian Blanco and husband, Tony of Florida; 24 great-grandchildren, Kylee (Zach), Olivia, Scarlett, Sierra, Cayden, Caysen, Layla, Shanice (Jaime), Shakayla, Shakira, Brandon Joseph, Baelyn, Zeke, Trinity, Eli, Ryan, Presley, Allie Jo, Dirk, Lillian, Little Verian, Shanna, Trace-Anne, and Bayli; four great-great-grandchildren, Zayne, Zoe, Sal Lynn, and Kaine; her special sister, Lena Cormier; her special cousins, Myrna Young and Lou Dupre; and her special friend, Lorna Rider.
Verian is preceded in death by her late husband, Sherman Ortego; her first husband, Bert Bolt Sr; her second husband, Hammy Guillory; her parents, Percy and Amy Shuff; one sister, Velma Shuff; and one special cousin, Lois Garsee.

Speight and her staff, Monica and Darlene, Evangeline Home Health – Daneeka RN and David Dugas with Rehab and Heart of Hospice, especially Annmarie, Brandi, Megan, and Valerie. The family is sincerely appreciative of their compassion and outstanding care. Special thanks also to the Hospice Chaplain, Don Moon, and Krystal for their guidance as well as Fr. Guilbeaux and Beverly with the communion staff.
