Ray M. Owens

Ray M. Owens, of Lake Charles, left this world on Friday, Sept. 10, 2021 and is now in Heaven with his Heavenly Father after 89 years.
Mr. Owens retired after serving 20 years in the US Air Force 68th Bombardment Wing. He served all of the United States and overseas. Mr. Owens began his career with the military at Chennault Air Force Base in Lake Charles and towards retirement was stationed at Barksdale Air Force Base in Shreveport, LA. He enjoyed get togethers and spending time with his family.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 65 years, Janell Lee Owens of Lake Charles; children, Melinda Owens Goodman (Kenneth) of Lake Charles, Charlotte Owens Sumrall of Singer, La., and Kathy Owens Weeks of Longville, La.; brother, Charles Owens of N.C.; grandchildren, Justin Goodman, Krystal LeBleu, Jeremy Goodman, and Rachel Sumrall; and great-grandchildren, Skylar Langley and Rylen, Kendall, and Brynlee Sutphin.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Maude Owens of Walhalla, S.C. and a son, Ricky Lee Owens.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2021 at University Baptist Church. Pastor John Astling will officiate. Burial will follow in Prien Memorial Park under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will begin on Monday in the church at 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. and will resume on Tuesday from 9 a.m. until the start of the service.
Pallbearers will be: Justin Goodman, Jeremy Goodman, Robbie Sutphin, Rylen Sutphin, Boyd Weeks, and Kenny Lee.
