Gene Arnold Morgan

Gene Arnold Morgan, 87, of Longville, LA, entered peacefully into rest on Wednesday, September 8, 2021, in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Gene was born to John Littleton Morgan and Claudia Janise Morgan on November 7, 1933, in Chloe, Louisiana.
Visitation will begin Sunday, September 12, 2021 from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Magnolia Baptist Church, located at 1922 Magnolia Church Road in Ragley, LA. Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM on Monday, September 13, 2021 at Magnolia Baptist Church in Ragley, LA with Rev. Stuart Graves and Rev. Corey Townsley officiating. Interment will follow at Magnolia Cemetery, Ragley, Louisiana. Funeral arrangements under the care of Labby Memorial Funeral Home of DeRidder, Louisiana.

Gene grew up in Chloe, and after graduating high school he enrolled to McNeese University. In 1957, he graduated McNeese with a degree in chemistry. After graduation he was employed with Firestone as a chemist for 35 years. In 1958, he married the love of his life Mary McCorquodale and they went on to have 4 wonderful children. Starting in 1958 he began his work into the music ministry, first starting in Murray Street First Baptist Church then moving to Maplewood First Baptist Church and then finally at the First Baptist Church in Longville. He served by leading the music for over 40 years and during those years he served as a deacon of Maplewood and Longville. His love for God did not stop there. He taught for many years Sunday School in Maplewood and Longville.
Gene had such a love for his family. He was always there for them and he will be dearly missed. He was a skilled carpenter. He was good at problem solving and loved to play 42. He always enjoyed having a good laugh.
Left to cherish his memory are his four children, Gene Morgan Jr. and wife Katherine of Flagstaff, AZ, Kalan Sylvest and husband David of Sulphur, LA, Jan McCoy and husband John of Leander, TX, and John Morgan of Moss Bluff, LA; two brothers, John “J.D.” Morgan of Lake Charles, LA and Duane Morgan of Houston, TX; six grandchildren, Lynndel Custodio and husband Daniel, Allen Morgan and wife Jasmine, Morgan McCoy, Rachel Sylvest, Claudia Thomas and husband Guthrie, and Parker McCoy; and one great grandchild, Grey Dean Custodio and a host of nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Mary F. McCorquodale Morgan; father, John Morgan; mother, Claudia Morgan; two brothers, Norman Morgan and Ray Morgan; niece, Stephanie Ellzy.
Those honored to serve as pallbearer are Allen Morgan, Parker McCoy, John McCoy, Guthrie Thomas, Ryan McCorquodale, and Roy McCorquodale.
