Ernest Ray Atchison

Ernest Ray Atchison, 76, of Leesville, died Wednesday, July 29. Graveside service will be be 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 3, in Wilson Cemetery, Leesville, under the direction of Hixson Funeral Home of Moss Bluff.

Ella Mae Blanchard

Ella Mae Blanchard, 84, of Vinton, passed away on Thursday, July 30, 2020, at a local hospital. She was born to her late parents, Laurie and Bertha Miller on Sept. 14, 1935, in Arnaudville, La. She enjoyed playing Pokeno and Bingo with her friends. Ella Mae also enjoyed crocheting and was known for her wonderful cakes. She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and a Parishioner at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Vinton. The most important thing to her was her family, and she loved them very much.

She is survived by her children, Kenneth Blanchard and wife Tammy of Vinton, Donna Anding and husband Ronny of Vinton, Paula Frost and husband Burt of Red Deer, Alberta, Canada, Michael Blanchard and wife Debbie of Sulphur, Glen Blanchard and husband Karl Walters of Vancouver, Wash., Terry Blanchard and wife Faith of Tomball, Texas, David Blanchard of Vinton; one brother, Laurie Miller Jr.; grandchildren, Ashley Register and husband Jon, Lauren Anding and husband Brandon, Amber Letourneau, Kristen Dore, Kyle Blanchard and wife Amber, Tayler Garcia and husband Chris, Tyler Blanchard; great-grandchildren, Landon, Braiden, Mason, Zack, Aubrey, Curtis, Whitney, Cale, Lexie; great-great-granddaughter, Ella Bea; her special friend, Pearl Fouts; along with her fur baby, Buddy.

Ella Mae was preceded in death by her loving husband of 58 years, Parry Blanchard; along with two brothers, Lucius “Butter Ball” Miller and Louis Miller.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, Aug. 3, 2020, at 10 a.m. with Father Carlos Garcia officiating. Visitation will be at Hixson Funeral Home of Vinton, on Sunday, Aug. 2, 2020, from 3 p.m. until 9 p.m. with a rosary at 6 p.m. led by the ACTS Retreat Sisters. Visitation will resume at Hixson Funeral Home of Vinton on Monday, from 8 a.m. until the procession to the church. Burial will follow at Big Woods Cemetery.

Tessie Marie Boudreaux Boulet, 95, dearly loved wife, mother, sister and friend passed peacefully on July 20, 2020, at home with her family by her side. Born in 1925 to Eddie and Annie Boudreaux of Thibodaux, La., Tessie was the fourth of nine siblings and was proceeded in death by her parents Annie and Eddie, sisters Verna, Barbara, and Hazel and her brothers Ernest, Peter and Nathan. Tessie is survived by her husband James, son Robert, and sisters Millie and Quanita.

Tessie met her husband of 70 years working as a telephone operator in Lafayette, La., while he attended the University of Southern Louisiana after returning from World War II. They moved to Lake Charles in the late 40s where they raised their family.

Faith in God would lead her to St. Luke-Simpson UMC where she would be an active church member attending Sunday school, serving on many committees and volunteering. Cake sales, covered dish suppers, sewing circles, and visiting seniors in assisted living and nursing home facilities were a few of the volunteer activities with the church she enjoyed. Tessie was a member of the Lioness Club and a member of the auxiliary at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital for over 29 years, working in the gift shop where she developed many friendships. An avid walker she knew all of her neighbors and loved playing Pokeno and helping organize neighborhood socials. Tessie loved gardening and cultivating flowers that she shared with friends and neighbors. Tessie and James loved participating in family activities including fishing, crabbing, crawfishing, cooking and spending weekends with their large families.

Tessie’s lifelong love for her family, strong faith in God, caring for friends and readiness to help others is a testament to a life well lived. A memorial is pending. Any inquiries can be sent to rbboulet@gmail.com.

Charles Larry Bruce

KINDER-Funeral Services for Charles Larry Bruce, 69, will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2020 at Reeves Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Creel Memorial Gardens under the direction of Ardoin/Allen Parish Funeral Homes.

Dr. Joseph E. Bruce

Dr. Joseph E. Bruce, 94, of Sulphur, La passed away on Saturday, Aug. 1, 2020. Joseph was born May 22, 1926 in DeQuincy, La.

Dr. Bruce served in the Southwest Pacific in the Navy’s Submarine Service during WWII. He graduated from Oklahoma State University in 1954 from the School of Veterinary Medicine. He belonged to various organizations, including the Louisiana Forest Farmers Association, Louisiana Archaeological Association; West Calcasieu Association of Commerce; Rotary Club of Sulphur and served as deacon at First Baptist Church, Sulphur. He was a member of and the founding president of the Brimstone Museum. Dr. Bruce was the 1965 Veterinarian of the Year for the State of Louisiana. He had a private veterinary practice in the Sulphur area for much of his adult life.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest Bruce and Ruby Irene Perkins Bruce, two sisters, Bess Marie Bruce and Theresa Ann Bruce Nelson, and two brothers, William Arthur Bruce and Earl Bruce.

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 72 years, Anna Joyce Lounsberry Bruce; his brother, Ernest Eugene Bruce of Monroe, La; his three sons and their spouses: John Bruce (Karen Tillman), William Bruce(Donna Wing) and Thomas Bruce (Amy Edge) all of Sulphur, La.

Bruce will also be fondly remembered by his six grandchildren, Lauryn Bruce (Jess) of the Woodlands, Texas, Sara George (Brandon) of Bossier City, La, Ashley Koch (Matt) and AnnaMarie Breaux (Thomas) both of Lake Charles, La, Joel Bruce and Hannah Bruce both of Sulphur, La. He will be missed deeply by his great grandchildren: Kaylin, Emily, and Abby George, and Joseph, Andrew, and Caroline Koch. Bruce will forever be remembered by his numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and dear friends.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 3, 2020 at Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home, and will resume on Tuesday at 9 a.m. until time of service.

Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2020 in Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Perkins Cemetery in DeQuincy.

Dewell Jefferson Campbell, 87, of Merryville, L, died Friday, July 31, 2020. Services are under the direction of Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, La.

Elaine Chapman, 78, of Sulphur passed away Wednesday, July 29, 2020 in a local hospital.

She was a Lake Charles native and has lived in Sulphur for many years. She loved playing Bingo and spending time with family.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 58 years, Robert L. Chapman; two daughters, Bobbie Deville of Lake Charles, and Martha Hill and husband Paul of Sulphur; three sons, Tony Deville and wife Jolee of Longville, Curtis Chapman and wife, Staycee of Sulphur, and Bruce Chapman and wife Bridgett of Carlyss; two stepsons, Robert and Dennis Matte; eight grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; three brothers; and two sisters.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Vincent and Ora Istre; six brothers, and one sister.

A Memorial Service honoring Elaine’s life will be held 6 p.m. , Monday, August 3, 2020 at Johnson & Robison Funeral Home of Sulphur. Rev. David Lilly will officiate. Prior to the memorial, a gathering of friends and family will be 4 p.m. – 6 p.m. Cremation has been entrusted to Johnson & Robinson Funeral Home.
