Michiko Yamada Ardoin
Michiko Yamada Ardoin was born September 1, 1927 in Sapporo, Japan, and left this life July 24th, 2020. She was the youngest of nine children and stayed to care for her mother when her father and oldest brother went to serve as missionaries to Asian populations in South America. She married Burnelle J. Ardoin from Mamou, Louisiana, in 1964.
Michiko really enjoyed tending to her plants, gardening, and floral arranging. She loved family gatherings, eating out with friends, but mostly enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, eight siblings, and her husband, Burnelle J. Ardoin.
She is survived by her son, James C. Ardoin of Katy, Texas and his children, Lauren and fiancé Paul, Brandon and wife Brooke, Conner and Emily; son, David L. Ardoin and wife Cheri of Lake Charles, and their daughters, Bethany Ardoin Verret and husband Drew, and Michiko’s first great grandchild, Graham of Lake Charles, and Kyleigh Ardoin of New Orleans; daughter, Lynda Ardoin Holmes and husband Stephen of Sour Lake, Texas and their daughter, Hannah; and daughter, Doris Ardoin O’Quinn of Kingwood, Texas and her children, Hunter and wife Natalie and Cooper. She also leaves a very large extended family. Michiko was loved by everyone she adopted along the way, referring to herself in third person as “Mom or Grandma”.
Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 26, 2020 at Consolata Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Reverend Kent Shepherd will officiate.
Due to COVID regulations and the rise in cases, we respectfully request gatherings be limited and all attendees wear face masks.
James Ray Borel, Sr.
James Ray Borel, Sr. passed away on Friday, July 24, 2020 surrounded by his family. He was born in Lake Charles, La. and was a 1962 graduate of Iowa High School. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1962 and retired as E7 Chief Petty Officer in 1982. He was a dedicated family man as well as a loving father to all of his cats. His passions included LSU football, electronics, and computers.
He is survived by one sister, Marjorie Jean Fournerat of Houston, TX; three children, James R. Borel, Jr. of Fayetteville, KY, Tammy Powers and husband Lindsay, Steven Borel and wife Kay, both of Iowa, LA; and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Gladys Borel; three brothers, Joseph Adam Borel, Jr. (Sonny), Charles Edward Borel and William Lynn Borel; his wife, Virgil “Ann” Borel; two granddaughters, Anna Louise Powers and Patricia Marie Borel.
A Celebration of his life will be held at Hixson Funeral Home of Lake Charles on Tuesday, July 28, 2020, from 5:00pm until 7:00pm. Casual attire and relatives only are requested at the Celebration. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Human Society. Words of comfort may be shared with the family at www.jehixson.com.
Eugene “Gene” Carlock
SULPHUR- Eugene “Gene” Carlock, 81, departed Saturday, July 25, 2020, in his home surrounded by family.
He was born on Nov. 6, 1938 in Westlake to Thomas P. Carlock and Hattie Davis Carlock. He graduated from Westlake High School in 1957 where he was a member of the football, basketball, and track teams. He served his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1959-1963. He then attended McNeese State University and received his Bachelor of Science in Accounting in 1974. Gene worked in the petrochemical plants for many years and also for Turner Industries. He also worked as Construction Project Manager at W.R. Grace until his retirement in 1998. He was a member of Pipefitter Local 106. Gene loved sports, especially football and basketball, and loved his fellowship with the EMMA Sunday School Class of Trinity Baptist Church in Lake Charles. He always enjoyed working in his yard and helping his neighbors as the local handyman.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Melanie Jane Trosclair Carlock of Sulphur; his daughter, Gena Lynn Miller and husband, Stephen of Sulphur; his siblings, Harvey S. Carlock and Glen Carlock, both of Westlake, and Inez Dupont and husband, Harold of Covington; his grandchildren, Dr. Laura Miller and husband, Dr. Johnathan Martin of Christiansburg, Virginia, Phillip Miller and wife, Sarahann of Erie, Co, and Mallory Miller of Baton Rouge; and his great-grandchildren, Charlie, Houston, and Brooklyn Miller of Erie, Co, and one on the way in Virginia. He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Edna Oliver.
For the health and safety of the family, a private funeral service will be held. The Rev. Steve James of Trinity Baptist Church will officiate. Gene will be laid to rest on Monday, in Mimosa Pines Cemetery South in Carlyss under the direction of Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, he would have preferred you consider a donation of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or just call a friend or loved one and share God’s Word. Russell Benjamin Carre
Russell Benjamin Carre, 75, a resident of Lake Charles, La passed from this life on July 17, 2020 in the comfort of his home.
He served in the United States Army and served in Vietnam and later the Air Force Reserve. He retired from the city of Lake Charles after many years of dedicated service. He was an antique car enthusiast and owned a mint condition Model-A. He was a staunch patriot and loved his country. He adored his nieces and nephews and had a special bond with them.
Mr. Carre is preceded in death by his parents, Edwin Russell and Dorothy Burnett Carre.
Russell is survived by his two sisters, Andy Breaux and Charlotte L. Cookingham and husband Bruce, nephews, Joshua Poe and Aaron Breaux, and nieces, Sarah Poe, Courtney Burton and husband Bill and Cara Sheen.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 28, 2020 from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at 6 p.m. in the chapel of Lakeside Funeral Home. Cremation will follow the service.

Herbert Hewitt Conner, 92, of Lake Charles died at 12:36 a.m. on Wednesday, July 22, 2020, at Christus Ochsner St. Patrick Hospital. A gathering of family and friends for visitation will be on Monday, July 27, 2020 at Johnson’s Funeral Home from 5 until 8 p.m., with a rosary being recited at 6:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 28, 2020 at St. Margaret Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetary under the direction of Johnson’s Funeral Home. In compliance with current COVID 19 order, we respectfully request gatherings be limited and all attendants wear face masks.
