Volvo Cars (Volvo) has unveiled pricing for its latest fully electric vehicle, the 2022 Volvo C40 Recharge. The purchase price of $58,570 includes 250 kWh of complimentary fast charging from Electrify America (EA) for all 2022 models.

The first fully electric vehicle designed by the Swedish automaker from the ground up, the C40 Recharge is also the first Volvo to feature a leather-free interior. The C40 Recharge includes standard wear-and-tear coverage for the first 40,000 miles or four years.

In addition, this is the first fully electric Volvo to include free charging. Prior to its partnership with Electrify America, Volvo established a partnership with ChargePoint for the launch of the XC40 Recharge. Buyers were offered discounts on home charging units and access to their public charging network for XC40 Recharge buyers.

Now, C40 Recharge buyers can take advantage of both partnerships, including EA’s complimentary charging for the first three years. Afterward, Volvo covers the membership fee towards Electrify America’s Pass+ program, which offers roughly 25 percent off standard charging rates.

The C40 Recharge’s purchase price of $58,570 puts the vehicle squarely in line with the Polestar 2, which has an MSRP of $59,000. It costs significantly more than both the Ford Mustang Mach-E, which starts at $42,895 and the Volkswagen ID.4, which starts at $39,995. Yet, it is less than other luxury models such as Tesla’s Model X, for which pricing starts at $88,190.

Because it is eligible for all federal and state tax incentives, most buyers of the C40 Recharge won’t have to pay the entire sticker price. For example, a buyer in California can receive a $1,500 rebate if they buy a C40 Recharge, plus a federal credit of up to $7,500.

Pre-ordering of the C40 Recharge began in March and is currently only available online. Customer deliveries in the United States are expected toward the end of 2021.
