Veteran identification cards available

The Veterans Administration encourages veterans to check out the variety of identification cards available to them which help access benefits to entitlements, as well as discounts offered by many stores, businesses and restaurants.
The VA web site, va.gov, spells out eligibility requirements and how to apply for each of the below ID cards.

There is a Department of Defense ID card that is used to show your military status and to get access to services on military bases. If you have the DoD Identification Card, you don’t need to request another type of photo ID to prove you’re a Veteran or to get retail or business discounts.
When you’re enrolled in VA health care, you get a Veteran Health Identification Card that you use to check in to your appointments at VA medical centers.
You can also use this card to get veteran discounts at the businesses which offer them. If you already have a veteran health card, there is no need to get another type of card.
When you receive care from a community provider through the VA Choice program, you can get a form of ID called the Veterans Choice Card.
Even if you don’t need VA health care, there is another type of veteran identification card that just about any veteran can use to get discounts offered by stores, businesses and and restaurants. It is simply called the Veteran ID Card.
When you have this care, you won’t need to carry around your military discharge papers or share sensitive personal information to receive discounts. And if you have one of these ID cards, you won’t need another type to prove you are a veteran.

In addition, at this time, all 50 states and Puerto Rico offer a Veteran designation (an identifying mark) printed on state-issued driver’s licenses or IDs. The type of Veteran designation may vary from state to state.
If you have a Veteran’s designation, you may not need other types of ID to get discounts offered to veterans.
