JENNINGS — The Zigler Art Museum, 154 N. Main St., presents the artwork of Ally Hill through June 19.

A native of Jennings, Hill attended Our Lady of Immaculate Catholic School until she was 7 years old, where she won her first art award — a T-shirt design contest.

After her parents’ divorce, she moved with her family out-of-state. She spent summers with her father in Crowley and many days in Jennings with her grandparents, Henry and Linda LeBlanc.

Though she always loved to draw, it was the amazing murals of downtown Jennings that sparked her interest in painting.

Though she left Louisiana at an early age, her Cajun roots shine through in her paintings.

Hill said the support of her husband, Michael, has encouraged her to develop her self-taught artistic style. She finds bold and vibrant acrylics — her favorite medium — allow her to explore the connections between nature and humanity.

She believes that art, and the act of creation, links mankind to the great Creator.

When she is not in her studio, she spends her days homeschooling her three young daughters.

The museum is open 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. Monday-Saturday. It is closed Sunday.
