I heard two guys arguing the other day. One said Dallas has the biggest payroll in the NFL. The other said it was the Washington Redskins. Could you list the top 10 teams for pay?

You bet.

The 10 teams with the highest payrolls in the NFL, according to Spotrac.com, a website that keeps track of professional athletes’ pay:

1. Pittsburgh Steelers — $116.3 million.

2. Baltimore Ravens — $108.8 million.

3. Philadelphia Eagles — $107 million.

4. Green Bay Packers and New York Jets — $106.1 million.

5. New York Giants — $104.8 million.

6. Oakland Raiders — $102.6 million.

7. Minnesota Vikings — $100.1 million.

8. Denver Broncos — $98.5 million.

9. Indianapolis Colts — $97.2 million.

10. Detroit Lions — $96.2 million.

According to Spotrac’s listing, the salaries for the Dallas Cowboys total $91 million, and the Redskins’ payroll comes in at $80.9 million.

The NFL salary cap this year is $120 million.

DOTD signs serve various purposes

I noticed that DOTD left their portable signs at La. 108 and 27 and La. 27 and 82. Are they thinking that the ferry is going to go back down again, because that’s what these signs have been used recently for? This would be the ferry Acadiana that crosses from east to west between Cameron and Holly Beach.

“The portable signs have been stationed at these locations during the past several months so that information can more quickly be advanced to motorists regarding the lengthy detours which may be required during ferry outages, hurricane evacuations, and marsh fires,” Steve Jiles, regional head of the Department of Transportation and Development wrote in an email.

“With the refurbished Cameron II ferry’s expected return to service in late November coinciding with the approximate ending of hurricane season and the autumn dry season, it is expected that the portable signs will be returned to Lake Charles for storage by early December.”

Basketball goals barred from streets

Is it against the law to set up a basketball goal on city streets?

Yes.

“It shall be unlawful to build, construct, repair, maintain or allow to remain on any paved street within the city any obstruction on the streets,” reads Section 18-1 of the city code.

A city official told The Informer earlier this year that violations can be reported to the Police Department at 491-1311 or the Mayor’s Action Line at 491-1201.
