“Oasis offers the same services to men as we do for women through referrals,” Kathy Williams, the shelter’s executive director, wrote in an email.

“We can assist in locating safe shelter for a man but cannot physically house them here.”

United Way head earns $89K a year

How many people does the United Way employ, and what are their salaries?

Denise Durel, head of the local United Way, said the group employs a dozen people, including her.

She said she earns $89,000 a year and that the salaries of the others workers — whose individual earnings are confidential — total $406,000.

“One of the strengths of United Way of Southwest Louisiana is the support that we receive from our Corporate Cornerstone companies, who cover 98 percent of our overhead cost,” she wrote in an email.

“This allows us to direct all but 2 percent of the donations of the annual campaign to take care of the local issues we support.”

Removal deadline for trash cans 7 p.m.

How many days before and after trash pickup can people leaves their trash cans on the side of the street?
